New 24-hour computer lab available to students
One of the newest additions to campus is the 24-hour computer lab, located in the hall between Russell West and Russell East. The old tutoring and testing center has been transformed into a lab full of natural light and houses many resources for all students to use.
Inside this comfortable and quiet 24-hour computer lab, we can find 30 computers equipped with SPSS, LockDown, mBlock, Visual Studio Code, Alice, Python3 (GUI), Python3 (CMD), Stellarium, and SimUText. Also, a Xerox printer with the ability to make copies, scans, and prints all to your email, making it one of two on campus. It has also been completely redecorated with new wood floors, a fresh coat of paint, and lounging chairs. This area is open to all including commuters, on-campus students, and the night owls that like to do their work at 3 a.m.
After talking to the brains behind the center, Sherri Rangel, she stated that the lab was created because she wants to promote student success! When entering the room, we can see that Ms. Rangel’s vision is brought to life. Filled with natural light, the tables are placed to promote teamwork. Another frequent user of this space, Michael O’Neill, stated “I have recently toured the lab with Ms. Rangel. In addition to 24-hour capability, this lab provides print and scan services to students. We are coordinating closely to ensure that it has the software needed for the basic computer science courses.”
We hope that students start to take advantages of all the resources available here on Charleston Southern’s campus, but especially this inclusive workspace. Whether you just need to print something before class or find yourself on campus at 4 a.m., come stop by this computer lab to get your work done.
