John Edward Kuykendall, a professor of history, is currently serving as Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Charleston Southern University. He earned both a Master of Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy in History from the University of South Carolina and the Bachelor of Arts from Erskine College. Prior to joining the CSU faculty in 2003, he served as a classroom instructor at several institutions, including Erskine, Newberry, and Columbia colleges. Although his research interests focus on the changing relationship between war and popular culture in twentieth-century Europe, Dr. Kuykendall enjoys the opportunity to study and teach a wide range of material. He is equally at home in discussions of the Far East, the Middle East, and the history of ideas. Although often engaged in administrative tasks in recent years, his clear calling is to service in the college classroom.
Your Purpose. Our Mission.
My own very positive experience as an undergraduate convinced me of the vital role teachers play in inspiring students to learn something of the shape of the past and to develop the skills necessary to continue to explore it for themselves. I am pleased to take an active part in continuing that tradition at another Christian liberal arts institution.
