A note from the directors
The idea of producing a musical during a pandemic is a daunting one at best. As we discussed what our limitations might be, it was difficult to settle on anything until we landed on a theme that we thought everyone could relate to…hope.
“The Spitfire Grill“ is a show about the lives of messed up people, who’ve made horrible choices resulting in life-altering situations. They guard dark secrets, are suspicious of strangers and can’t let go of their hurt. Sounds a lot like being human, doesn’t it?
Fortunately, in this story, the town of Gilead brings about some unexpected, and even unexplainable change. Long-held hurts are healed through forgiveness and as the townspeople learn to love and help each other, the balm in this Gilead brings about a new hope for a better future.
We have been so impressed with our students and their ability to follow strict protocols for rehearsal and performance as we brought this show together. What was originally intended as a semi-staged reading quickly transformed into more of a fully realized production as these cast and crew members worked hard over a very short period of time to treat the show’s subject matter and characters with excellence and grace. I believe we can all say we are thankful for the experience.
