Valentine’s Day Dates on Campus

By McKenzie Barker | February 14, 2024

Love is in the air at Charleston Southern! Have a college sweetheart, but can’t figure out what to do to celebrate the day? We’ve got your back! Here are a few lovely date night ideas from the comfort of campus!

Break Out the Picnic Blanket
Although there are many places to choose from on campus, we recommend breaking out that picnic blanket and heading over to the intramural field for a classic Valentine’s Day picnic date. You don’t even have to worry about food because the best date night restaurant of all time is on campus…Chick-fil-A! Nothing screams romance better than fried chicken.

Pro tip: Make the afternoon extra fun by bringing a craft to do together after dessert, like painting!

Be a Book Worm
The Rivers Library might be your second home for finals week, but the second floor is full of fun fiction books available for check-out. Get to know one another by picking out a short book for your sweetheart that you love or think that they will like. Check-out, grab a coffee at Java City, and find a bench around the Reflection Pond. Share your thoughts at the end of each chapter to create a little book club with your boo!

Pro tip: Check out the Valentine’s Day curated display on the first floor!

Try Your Hand at a New Hobby
If you’re looking for some friendly competition, Campus Recreation has you covered. Stop by the Brewer Center to sign out game equipment for the afternoon. By now, you probably know how to play Pickle Ball or have been wanting to try it out. Make it a double date and see which couple wins! Looking for more one-on-one competition? Try your hand at the disc golf course located in front of the Buccaneer Field House.

Pro tip: Of course, we don’t condone sports betting…but if we were you, we’d wager a Buc Stop milkshake!

A Couple That Worships Together Stays Together
This year, Valentine’s Day falls on a Wednesday, which means Wednesday Chapel service. Make a date out of it and grow in your faith together! Skip the notes app and bring some good old-fashioned pen and paper to jot down notes throughout the service. Afterwards, take a nice stroll around the Reflection Pond and share your thoughts and well…reflect!

Pro tip: All that walking and worshipping will work up an appetite. When you’re done, head over to the Dining Hall for fried chicken Wednesday and ice cream!

Fireside Fun
Take advantage of the newest campus amenity, the Costin Plaza! Surprise your date with dinner by picking up groceries and spending the afternoon grilling! Once you’re done, you can kick back your feet and enjoy a nice afternoon by the fire pits. Top the afternoon off by roasting marshmallows and making s’mores.

Pro tip: You can’t have a Valentine’s date without flowers. When you’re out getting groceries, pick up a few roses, put them in a vase, and set them out in the Plaza when you go!
