It’s time to join CSU intramurals
Charleston Southern’s intramural sports always welcome new students to participate.
What are the drawbacks? (hint: there are none)
But what are the benefits, and how do I get involved?
Community:
There is a level of community found when you join any of CSU’s intramural sports. As of this semester, there are 386 participants in intramural sports according to Nate Cobb, director of campus recreation. Cobb also said that there is equal participation from freshman through seniors. So, you will have no problem making friends with anyone from any class. His research also shows that once you start participating, you tend to continue to participate, which will help you build lasting friendships.
Opportunities:
CSU’s intramural sports offer leagues and tournaments. The leagues tend to last most of each semester and conclude with a championship game toward the end of the semester. Flag football, soccer, basketball, and sand volleyball are some of the leagues offered in the spring semester, with more offered in the fall. If you don’t want to commit to a whole season, tournaments are also offered. Tournaments are a one-day commitment and consist of different sports including pickle ball, wiffle ball, and so much more.
Physical and Mental benefits:
A study posted on the National Library of Medicine concluded that while you are in college, the more physical activity you have, the better mental health you will have. So, getting involved in CSU’s intramural sports will help your activity levels, which in turn will help your mental health. Positive mental health can have an impact on your overall performance in classes.
