How students can connect with employers at the Spring Career Expo

By Brandon Carpenter | February 19, 2025

The Spring Career Expo is an annual event held by the Career Center at Charleston Southern University. The event’s purpose is to help current students connect with various employers, with the goal that students can get recruited for whichever career field or job path they would like to pursue after graduation.

Aside from recruitment, students can attend the Expo to ask questions and get information or professional insight into the different jobs they may be able to do with their major/degree. This is especially true for students who may not be sure as to which career or job they would like to get into, and reaching out to these employers can help instill confidence and interest in these students.

Some examples of questions students may ask employers who are present at the Expo include:

  1. What kind of jobs/roles are offered at this company?
  2. What values are held by this company and/or what is the company culture like?
  3. What are the requirements for applying for a specific position? (It is recommended that students ask this only if they are highly interested in a particular job offered by an employer.)
  4. What is expected from this position? (This could include a job description, responsibilities, tasks, etc.)
  5. What is the hiring process like?
  6. How are interviews conducted, and what are some questions that could be asked during the interview?

Aside from the questions listed above, students are encouraged to ask other questions they may have. Asking questions not only helps students to get more information from different employers but also helps to show employers that these students are interested in both working in a certain career field and potentially working for a specific company.

While at the Expo, students are also encouraged to take notes, meet new people, and search for networking opportunities.

Students can prepare before attending the Expo by doing some research into different career fields based on their majors, as well as research companies they may be interested in working for. The Career Center can also help students prepare by hosting mock interviews, assisting with job/career research, and answering any questions they may have.
