African American Society hosts spirit week

The purpose of the African American Society spirit week is to kick off Black History Month with a bang! The society seeks to involve the entire campus in various dress-up days and activities.  

Monday, Feb. 5Dashiki Day & Game Night Wear your best dashiki to kick off Black History Month. This garment originated in West Africa as a comfortable work tunic for males, but turned into a symbol of pride for those fighting for civil rights in the 1960s and 70s. If you want to learn more and win prizes, attend Game Night in Littlejohn Parlor at 7 p.m. 

Tuesday, Feb. 6Jersey DayWear your favorite team jersey or T-shirt from any sport. 

Wednesday, Feb. 7The 44th The 44th day is in reference to the first African American President Barack Obama. Students may dress “presidential” with their best suits, dress shirts or dresses! 

Thursday, Feb. 8Throwback Put together your best ’80s and ’90s throwback outfits and rock them around campus. Think bright colors and the Fresh Prince of Belair. 

Friday, Feb. 9BlackoutGet decked out in your all-black attire to wrap up the last day of spirit week!
