Semester begins with Prayer First

The campus community is invited to Prayer First on Wednesday, Aug. 22 at 11 a.m. in Lightsey Chapel Auditorium.

The Reverend Jon Davis, associate dean of students for Whitfield Center for Christian Leadership, said, “Students can expect to be prayed for, see our CSU leaders demonstrate their faith in the Lordship of Jesus, and be encouraged that they are not just getting a degree but are discovering their calling.” The event counts as a Chapel credit.

Davis lists the reasons beginning the semester with prayer is important:

Prayer shows our uniqueness. Prayer demonstrates our utter dependence on God and Jesus as our Lord through the work of the Holy Spirit.
Prayer unites everyone. Prayer does not have preferences like music.
Prayer is rooted in faith. “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6)
Prayer is biblical. First Thessalonians 5:17 tells us “pray without ceasing.”
Prayer creates movement. It was through prayer we see Jesus submitting to the cross in the Garden of Gethsemane.
