Hispanic Heritage Month celebrated
CSU celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with a luncheon Oct. 4 featuring guest speaker Dr. Sara Fernandez Medina, a professor from The Citadel.
Medina encouraged keeping an open mind when talking with people from different cultures and digging deeper to find out who people really are. She said something happens to your brain when you travel abroad. “You are the same person but a different person at the same time,” said Medina.
Dr. Glorimar Blanco, CSU Spanish professor, reminded the audience that Hispanics may be seen as one group, but in reality Hispanics represent multiple countries, cultures and continents with speaking Spanish as the common thread.
National Hispanic Heritage Month runs from September 15 through October 15. The CSU Diversity Committee plans events throughout the year to facilitate discussion about diversity.
