Melvin Sinclair

Dr. Sinclair began teaching at CSU in 2013 after 30+ years of experience in HR management in manufacturing and financial services, which lead to him starting his own consulting firm. He was a foundational member of the start-up, Hitachi Electronic Devices, and helped to build scalable systems and processes for a financial services organization with a high growth strategy. Dr. Sinclair was the first President of the Upstate Business Group on Health and was President of the SC Banker’s Human Resources Committee and the American Hoechst Federal Credit Union. He has taught both undergraduate and graduate level courses on campus and online. His academic interests include high-performance organizations, employee engagement, change management, and professional and organizational development.

Sinclair married his childhood sweetheart, Lynne, after graduating from UofSC and before donning a green uniform. They have three children and eight grandchildren and are members of Taylors First Baptist Church in Taylors, SC. Sinclair has been active in the employment ministry at his church for over 10 years. He enjoys his faith, family, music (trumpet), sailing, riding his motorcycle, and his Scottish genealogy. He was a charter board member of the highly successful Greenville (SC) Scottish Highland Games and plays trumpet in several groups, primarily at retirement homes, assisted living facilities, churches, and patriotic events.

He enjoys his work at CSU, linking academia with today’s work environment. This is an opportunity that was not always on his radar, but God’s plans for him were greater than his own. Being able to share Jesus with adult students in an academic environment is a blessing to him. Looking back over his life, he can clearly see God at work, even when he was unaware. His favorite Scripture is 1 Peter 4:10, ‘Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms’ (NIV).

Your Purpose. Our Mission.

CSU is like going home. I have found that the CAPS program at CSU has a high academic standard, with real-life applications in each course, and a love for Jesus. That is an awesome combination and the main reasons that I applied to teach at CSU several years ago. That is also why I intend to teach in the CAPS program for many years to come. I enjoy the interchange with working adults who are interested in increasing their knowledge and furthering their careers. An online environment is not for everyone; however, for those of us who teach and learn online, online education offers a lot of flexibility, accompanied by a strong commitment and disciplined approach.
