Andrea Raines

Upon graduating with honors from the Medical University of South Carolina’s College of Nursing in 2009, Andrea Raines married her high school sweetheart here in Charleston and set out on a lifetime of adventures. His commission in the United States Marine Corps took the couple up and down the East Coast, where she began her Nursing career in Orthopedics and Neurology, then quickly fell in love with the challenges of the Emergency Department. During their time away from Charleston, and throughout the challenges of wartime deployments, the couple welcomed their first two daughters, while Mrs. Raines eagerly obtained several Emergency Nursing related certifications and found herself not only enjoying the Charge Nurse role, but also dabbled part time in Paramedic Instruction in North Carolina. Upon the couple’s return to Charleston in 2013, Mrs. Raines returned to the starting point of her career and accepted a Nursing role within the Roper Saint Francis Healthcare System.

Within the next few years, the couple welcomed the blessings of two more children, as well as finding the time to earn the Emergency Nursing Association’s Certification in Emergency Nursing. In 2016, Mrs. Raines obtained her Masters of Science in Nursing Education from Western Governor’s University and was thrilled to join Charleston Southern University’s College of Nursing as an Adjunct Instructor, where she remained until 2019 when she accepted an offer to join the team as a full time Instructor of Nursing in the BSN Program. Mrs. Raines has taught classes across the BSN and ABSN curriculum, and truly appreciates the opportunity to work in such a richly faith-filled environment.

In her spare time, Mrs. Raines teaches nursing certification courses for the Emergency Nurses Association and serves as a Volunteer Nurse for the Lowcountry Pregnancy Center ministry. Serving their community and Parish, Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, is very important to the Raines family, which they live out in service on several boards within their children’s school, Blessed Sacrament Catholic School, in Charleston. Mrs. Raines serves as an Executive Board member of the school’s Home and School Association as well as Vacation Bible School Director, Angel Tree Coordinator and Children’s Religious Education Volunteer Instructor.

Mrs. Raines truly values the mission and opportunity of training the next generation of nurses to practice with Christian distinction, and could not be more grateful for her supportive team at home, which includes her husband, Matthew, four beautiful children, adult brother, John, three loving dogs, and two guinea pigs.

Your Purpose. Our Mission.

I take the time to dig deeper, discuss longer, and explore more creatively how to incorporate the Gospel into the students' individual vocation.
