Is the Master of Education in Physical Education and Sport Coaching for you?

By Heather J Thompson | October 23, 2024

Do you have a passion for sports? For coaching? For strength and conditioning?  If so, the MEd in Physical Education and Sport Coaching may be the right degree for you! Our flexible online 30-credit master’s program can be completed in 1 -2 years.

The role of physical education teachers and sport coaches is steadily changing to meet the needs of our society.  Youth league coaches are now facing the prospect of specialization in one sport including year-round skill development and games.  College coaching has shown an increase in the need for specialized coaching practices, especially by newer coaches and assistant coaches, to develop and enhance players’ abilities.

As the obesity epidemic continues to grow in America, the emphasis that physical education teachers place on skill development in fitness is also growing, as demonstrated in the SHAPE America National Standards and Grade-Level Outcomes.

In our program, students will explore sport law and ethics, strength and conditioning programming, business and leadership courses, sport psychology, along with sport science and research related to teaching and coaching for all ages and skill levels.
