Power restored; campus to resume normal operations

By Jenna Johnson | September 27, 2024

Charleston Southern University’s power has been restored! Power outages on our campus were related to an electrical fire in a nearby neighborhood. Thankfully, all are okay! Dominion Energy and Sumter Utility worked tirelessly to resolve the issues and restore power back to campus. We are grateful to them and our Facility Services team for ensuring safety while providing basic needs to our campus.

Due to the impacts of the storm, the following events have been cancelled or rescheduled:

  • Volleyball game vs. Presbyterian College tonight – cancelled
  • Up + Up Concert Tour tomorrow night – rescheduled for Nov. 8
  • Women’s soccer at UNC Asheville – rescheduled for Oct. 9
  • HSMPA concert at Doorway Baptist Church tonight – postponed

Dining Services has adjusted to the following schedule today:

  • The Dining Hall is working towards normal operations by dinner this evening.
  • The Galley at Russell will open at 4 p.m.
  • Chick-fil-A will open at 5 p.m.
  • Java City and The Buc Stop will be back to normal operations tomorrow.

The Brewer Center, Rivers Library, and other services will resume normal operations tomorrow. We will see you back for in-person learning on Monday, Sept. 30.

Please pray for our university neighbors to the north and all others in the path of Hurricane Helene overnight. The impact of the storm on their campuses and surrounding areas was much more harsh. We were spared and are grateful.

Stay safe, Bucs!
