CSU Delegation attends S.C. Student Legislature

By CSU Media | August 16, 2024

CSU Student Government Association leaders attended the spring session of the South Carolina Student Legislature, a mock legislative experience designed to give students hands-on experience.

Brandon Diehl ’22, the group’s advisor, said only 10-11 students from each school are able to attend, so the competition among SGA leaders is intense. Diehl, transfer enrollment counselor at CSU, said, “SCSL is prestigious, and many members have gone on to work in state and federal politics.”

Senior Sam Grant is the current SCSL speaker pro tempore, the high-ranking leader position in the organization. Caleb Short ’24 served as the CSU delegation chair. Evan Rapp, a rising junior, succeeded Short as delegation chair after Short graduated.

All of the bills submitted by the CSU delegation during the spring session passed.

In addition to CSU, other SCSL university members are: University of South Carolina, Clemson University, Coastal Carolina University, Bob Jones University, Presbyterian College, and Francis Marion University.

Back row: Peter Link III, Christina Bals, Davis McNeil, and Evan Rapp. Middle row: Caleb Short, Matthew Parry, and Jeremiah Williams. Front row: Samuel Grant, Tais Pineda, and Madi Brock.
