Metts named historian for S.C. FBI National Academy Board of Directors
Dr. Gary Metts, assistant dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and director of the criminal justice graduate program, was appointed historian of the South Carolina FBI National Academy Board of Directors in early March.
Metts said, “I am excited and blessed to represent Charleston Southern University and my fellow law enforcement officers throughout the state of South Carolina on this prestigious board. Attending and graduating from the National FBI Academy was the pinnacle of my 30-year career in law enforcement.” Metts was selected to attend and graduated from the National FBI Academy in 2000.
The FBI National Academy Association is a nonprofit organization with over 14,000 law enforcement professionals who have dedicated their lives to their education and training. Less than 1% of law enforcement officers, internationally, are asked to attend this training.
Dr. Gary Metts is retired Lt. Colonel of the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, South Carolina. He has also served in the United States Air Force as narcotic/bomb K-9 Police Officer, and he augmented the US Secret Service in protection of President Reagan and Bush. He is also a proud graduate of the FBI National Academy class 2002. Additionally, he has taught at the University of South Carolina, St. Leo University, and Charleston Southern University over the past 19 years, where he continues to pour into the lives of students to reach their professional and personal goals.
