Freshman Checklist

Your first year is a great time to discover more about yourself, God, your passions, and how you will serve others. You will also explore possible majors and careers.

  • Get involved on campus! Eat in the dining hall, join intramurals, spend time getting to know your peers.
  • Explore our campus community and the Charleston area. Attend Sweet 16 events, campus activities, and athletic events. Download the BucNation app and keep it at your fingertips for the latest happenings on campus.
  • Get plugged in with student organizations by attending Club Drop-In.
  • Attend Chapel: Wednesdays at 11 a.m. in Lightsey Chapel Auditorium.
  • Interact with Resident Assistants and fellow residents.
  • Attend programs, events, and community meetings.
  • Attend Elevate – CSU’s campus worship experience – every Thursday night at 8 p.m. in Lightsey Chapel.
  • Join a small group, designed specifically for discovering your passion.
  • Consistently attend a local church.
  • Attend conferences, serve with mission opportunities, and develop your Christian leadership potential through the Leadership Institute.
  • Find a one-on-one discipleship relationship.
  • Determine your WHY.
  • Complete a career profile on the BucCareer Network, powered by Handshake. Create and upload your resume to the site. Begin to explore majors and professional interests by completing the Awato Assessment.
  • Gain work experience through a part-time job, or contact the Office of Student Employment to check your eligibility for a Federal Work-Study position on- or off-campus.
  • Attend fairs and events designed to find volunteer and service opportunities, a local church home, or to explore life after graduation.
