Render, a women’s ministry led by Charleston Southern University students, is ringing in a new year with a new leader. Junior kinesiology major Gabrielle Axson now spearheads the growing group, filling the shoes of Render’s co-founder upon her graduation. Lindsey Jester ‘20, a recent December grad, established the group with alumna Sarah Parris ‘20 who graduated last spring. The group has grown to nearly 100 attendees at each service and closing in on 40 discipleship pairings.

“I am proud of what Render has become in my short time here. It has not only given me opportunities to learn how to lead but it has also taught me so much about the ins and outs of ministry,” said Jester. “The women of this campus now have the resources and opportunities to grow and I am hopeful that they will continue to have these things for years to come because of the loyalty of our team but also because of the provision God promises.”

The two co-founders created Render their freshman year, noting that previous attempts to start a women’s ministry failed prior to their arrival. They felt it was the right time.

“Both of us had a desire to see a space for the women on campus where they could comfortably worship without distractions like boys or caring what they look like,” stated Jester. “We are where we are today because God paved the way for every single next step and saw fit for Render to have the influence that it has.”

As Jester prepares for the next chapter—life after graduation, the torch for Render remains in good hands. The student organization is comprised of a CORE Team to ensure the ministry continues on for years to come. The team partners juniors and seniors with freshmen and sophomores.

Axson encourages all ladies to participate, not just CSU students. “Render is a place where girls can come to grow in their faith in a comparison-free atmosphere,” she said. “Ladies can get involved by coming to our services monthly, becoming a discipler or disciple, or joining our prayer team.”Render will host four services this semester—tentatively in the chapel—on January 25 at 7 p.m., February 12 at 6 p.m., March 22 at 7 p.m., and April 12 at 7 p.m. Virtual meetings will replace the events, if needed.
